CYF is a new and growing non-profit organization that believes French is an invaluable asset for Canada and all Canadians. We aim to increase the number of French speakers in Canada by empowering post-secondary youth to learn and practice French.
A NATION-WIDE CHALLENGE
48.7% of French Immersion students will lose their French within five years of graduating high school. If almost half of them can’t maintain their French, how many core French graduates succeed in maintaining it? And what about those who didn’t learn French in high school, but want to learn it while studying in college or university?
THE PERFECT SOLUTION
Canadian Youth for French exists to ensure that anyone who wants to maintain their French, or learn French while in university or college, has all the resources and support they need to do so. Post-secondary students who value French are our #1 priority!
OUR COMMITTEES
CYF Committees bring together like-minded postsecondary students to discuss current events important to Canada’s francophone communities.
Four initial committees were established in 2024:
1) Health Sciences
2) Education
3) Business Administration
4) Political Science
OUR CLUBS
We’re in the process of establishing a national network of CYF Clubs in key Canadian colleges and universities. These clubs will be student-led spaces for French enthusiasts to gather and connect.
Each Club will be unique based on the interests of its local membership, hosting various social activities like game nights, field trips, language exchanges, discussion groups, and more.
A NATIONAL NETWORK
Creating opportunities for students to connect nationwide is important to us. As a national organization we’re able to tap into a larger pool of students interested in French and connect them with peers outside of the ones they bump into at their home university.
THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT
We have big plans for the future. We are actively launching CYF Clubs in Canadian universities from coast to coast and we look forward to offering scholarships, French-language training, advocacy initiatives, and more leadership opportunities as the organization grows in size.
